An Israeli strike hit a house that had been rented to displaced families. In addition to the fatalities, four people were injured, according to the Red Cross.
On Monday, Israel broadened its offensive in Lebanon, killing at least 18 people in its first airstrike on Aitou, a Christian-majority town in northern Lebanon, according to the Lebanese Red Cross.
Previously, Israel’s military focus had been primarily on southern Lebanon, the Bekaa Valley, and the suburbs of Beirut.
In Aitou, a house rented to displaced families was struck, resulting in numerous casualties, Aitou Mayor Joseph Trad told Reuters. The Red Cross reported that four people were injured in addition to the deaths.
Israel also ordered the evacuation of residents from 25 villages to areas north of the Awali River as it increased its attacks.
The conflict continues amidst tensions between Israel and the UN peacekeeping force, UNIFIL, and escalating hostilities with Hezbollah in southernLebanon.
