Comedy Actress Teri Garr Dead at 79

Actress Teri Garr, celebrated for her comedic talents, has died at the age of 79, her publicist Heidi Schaffer confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter.

Throughout her prolific career, Garr collaborated with some of Hollywood’s most legendary directors: Mel Brooks in Young Frankenstein, Steven Spielberg in Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and Sydney Pollack in Tootsie, among others.

In 1965, she even starred alongside Elvis Presley in Girl Happy. Although her Hollywood career thrived for decades, it began to slow in the ’90s following her diagnosis of multiple sclerosis in 2002. Garr’s final on-screen appearance was in the 2011 television movie How to Marry a Billionaire.

Reflecting on Garr’s role as Inga, Gene Wilder’s assistant in Young Frankenstein, Mel Brooks remembered her “humor and lively spirit” on set. “Her ‘German’ accent had us all in stitches,” he recalled in a tribute post on X. Michael Keaton, her Mr.
